Memory Leak - No garbage Collection?

So i just noticed that POE is using about 20GB of ram. While its reporting only using 7GB.

Seems that there is something wrong?

Have other people noticed this?

How are you measuring memory usage and on what platform is this?

To answer the question in your thread title - no, Path of Exile doesn't use garbage collection; it is written in C++ and HLSL.

The game graph shows 3.7Gb RAM, OS 9Gb RAM and more... Then "Bad location" error

This isn't true. The recommended system requirements list 16GB, which indicates that 8GB isn't enough for optimal operation. And it's perfectly fine to fit within 16GB of memory.

OS 9Gb RAM and more..

Also, OS, drivers and other programs and services use memory. When they are actively working, they may use more than usual.

My Windows 11 system uses 4GB at idle, and the game's working set uses 8.5GB at idle. Steam working set uses 0.5GB and the total memory usage is 12.5GB. Memory usage is even lower due to shared memory usage.

Regular applications, like games, don't use RAM directly. They use virtual memory. You probably need to look for a working set.

We need to make sure it's actually related to the game. And that different programs aren't interfering with the game.
