Please let us use coins on corrupted gems

Since coins corrupt skills and cannot add other corrupt properties other than the added support skill at random, we cannot use Vaal skills with these coins which is a pity.

I do not think they are going to be going core due to

1) The RNG nature of them

2) the limited number of skills that can even benefit from a 7th link with the current gem schema

3) the fact that for 99% of the 400+ active skills the best result is going to be an item rarity gem

4) the fact that there is no way to salvage a bad result, like a brutality gem on elemental hit gem, which makes the gem innately have "Deals no Damage of other Damage Types" and "Supported Skills deal no Elemental Damage" which combine to make the skill do no damage in every instance.

I like the arfaud uniques though, but there isn't enough of them to really justify not just making them individual drops and even the stuff that sarresh drops aren't even arfaud uniques

One quick way to salvage the mechanic for the rest of the league is to increase the level of the skill gems it applies to the items, as a level 1 support is sort of... uniquely bad in most instances. So somewhere between 18 and 35.

Thank you for your perspective!

I don't know if they will go core or not but since they're in the league it'd be nice to not leave Vaal skills out of the mechanic. Although I guess I can always use a weapon swap or something.

But, regarding the points:

1) RNG is the nature of the game.
2 and 3) lvl1 Fortify, lvl1 Endurance Charge, lvl1 Faster Attacks, lvl1 Elemental Pen, lvl1 Inspiration... There are many supports that are generally (or occasionally) socket-inefficient but can add a lot of value with no socket-usage. Like I don't benefit from the damage aspect of Fortify on my Vaal Volcanic Fissure but I sure would like the fortification. A little bit of extra Attack Speed or Accuracy Rating wouldn't hurt either. Or even extra crit chance or a bit of added fire damage.
4) The game has a lot of bricking mechanics (corruption, reflection, etc). Also there's always trade if you get something bad for your build but that could help someone else.

That's my opinion anyway, maybe I'm missing something here.
Cheers!
The level 1 support gem corruption is intended to be an alternative for skills which don't benefit much from the extra gem level. If you're playing cast on crit cyclone, let's say, you don't really care about a level 21 cyclone gem. But a free Infused Channeling, Inc Area, etc is a significant boost to build efficacy.

I imagined it was something like that. Although my concern is specific to Vaal skills. I guess it's fair not to apply it to 21/23 gems. Maybe the coin could transform the gem into a vaal version if available? That wouldn't affect it negatively in any way I think.

It's definitely a weakness of the coin system. Because it's possible to get a level 21 vaal arc, for instance, via the Incursion mechanic but the coin system has no equivalent of double-corruption.

Technically the vaal version changes it into a 7 link as well, and using the lapidary lens you can get a 21/23 vaal skill. That outcome is actually more common than getting one of the applicable support gems ARealLifeCaribbeanPirate#2605 mentioned. [1 in 8 versus 2 in 40]

Outside of some very limited applicability for level 1 support gems, they either need to fix the power level or fix the choice aspect or both in order to salvage that mechanic for the future.
