high but stable latency

Hello,

I just installed the game and I’m experiencing a latency issue: my ping stays around 360 ms (stable) regardless of which server I connect to (Hong Kong, Paris, São Paulo, etc.).

I live in Réunion Island, and the closest server should be in South Africa, where I would normally expect a ping of around 50 ms.

Could you please help me identify the cause of this issue or confirm whether the servers are currently accessible from Réunion Island?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Ah, whoops, I was tired and typed the wrong thing by mistake.

I had meant the "Sent" column. Sorry.

The issue appears here.

The hop most likely to be responsible is unfortunately not participating in the test - however, there appears to be enough circumstantial evidence to identify the party responsible.

By the time your traffic is passing through the router with IP address 81.52.166.75 the latency increase has already occurred. This IP address is registered to French ISP Orange.

The hop immediately prior to the seemingly-troubled node contains "orange.net" in its domain name.

If the hop prior to the troubled hop is registered to Orange S.A. and the following hop is also registered to Orange S.A. then it stands to reason that the hop which isn't responding to the test's echo requests is similarly owned by Orange S.A.

If Orange are your ISP, excellent - contact their support team and show them this log; it should be all they need to begin investigating the issue (if they haven't already).

If Orange are not your ISP, you'll need to forward the log to your ISP's support team and advise them that a peering partner of theirs is preventing you from effectively using your connection.

It's possible that using a VPN would route your traffic around the problem. This isn't really the core use case of a VPN, so if it works it would be more through luck than judgement.

Proton's free plan is decent, if you'd like to experiment without immediately paying.

I've fixed that page now. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

It's unlikely, but possible, you'll need to bypass your browser's cache to see the fix.

You said you would expect a latency of ~50 ms and the log shows it jumping to twice that in Orange's network. You also said the issue appears to affect all data centres, which strongly suggests a problem that lies on-route. If the problem was with the servers, it wouldn't affect all servers.

So how do you explain my normal ping on other game ? that's pretty weird

Without seeing a log of your traffic to another game, I would not attempt to do so.

But to speak in general terms - think of where GGG has its servers located, where you are in the world, and the route you would take to physically travel there. Your internet traffic is quite literally making that journey. There comes a point on that journey - relatively early on, it must be said - where you would no longer be using the same roads as you would be if going to a different destination.

I am categorically not saying "Orange S.A. has a bad network." I am saying that the atypically high latency values you are posting about are shown in the log as your traffic transits Orange's network. A single issue with a single one of their routers could cause that.

To try an analogy... when your car does try to drive over that pothole in the road, your traffic has a problem. But when your car drives on entirely different roads, the problem doesn't matter.
