CPU temperatures at 4k resolution
|
After experimenting with a few other games I've narrowed down my CPU temperature issues to basically having to run the games at 3840x2160. The only real fix for me is to limit the game to 60fps, which makes the temperatures tolerable.
For PoE, is there something I can do to not run it at 60fps? Currently running it at Vulkan with every setting at low and capping it at 60 allows my CPU to sit slightly under 80 or a little over 80, but this league, the Breach effects make it very bad at 120-144fps and the temperatures spike up fast. At 60fps with all the things going on, it looks extremely bad and choppy. Last edited by obake1#0447 on Nov 3, 2025, 3:45:46 PM Last bumped on Nov 4, 2025, 2:37:19 AM

I do not mean to be unhelpful - but overheating is a hardware-level problem.
Either your CPU cooler is insufficient for the CPU you have, your case is an aesthetics-focused one that doesn't permit the required airflow (typically seen with tempered glass-heavy designs), or something is wrong (e.g. the CPU cooler is facing the wrong way, or there's some dust build up). GGG no longer themselves provide Technical Support - but even 7 or 8 years ago when they used to, this thread would have labelled as falling outside the scope of the forum. Your best bet's likely to post in a more general purpose forum specifying your CPU model, your CPU cooler, and stating you've high temperatures (they'll expect numbers) when your CPU is under severe load. If you happen to have a Reddit account, I think my recommendation would be the r/BuildAPC subreddit. GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.

I don't feel my cooling is inadequate. It's a full tower that I recently just dusted out and I'm using a pretty good air cooler in the NH-D15 with an abundant amount of airflow.
The problem is mostly due to the CPU being a 13th gen intel as the primary root cause of the heat. Adding in 4k resolution due to my monitors being native to that resolution only adds to the problem sadly. Another game where I have to lower to 60fps is Fellowship, which saw 20C drop in temps immediately upon doing so. However, in WoW, which is also mostly CPU dependent, I can run that at 4k windowed mode just fine at 60-70C at most with an uncapped framerate. I am not sure why this game only doesn't suffer from this problem. Last edited by obake1#0447 on Nov 4, 2025, 2:29:53 AM

Do you have uncapped fps, per chance? I keep my display at 120 and limit all games to 120 as well (riva tuner for windows, mangohud for linux). All temps under control.
