[Linux] Random High CPU Latency
|
Hello,
This league I have been randomly experience spikes of *EXTREMELY* high CPU Latency (800-2k+). This makes the entire game unresponsive, even if I can get it to Pause the UI is near unusable. I first noticed it in Rituals, but the further I progressed in the Atlas the worse it has been getting and now its occurring nearly every map. My other thought is that it may have something to do with my build itself (Ranged Animate Weapon) and maybe in frantic/monster heavy situations just having the old Tornado Shot issue of just too many projectiles for the engine to keep up with? I have noticed that sometimes (but not always) it will resolve itself if you get far enough away from whatever caused it (literally moving 2-3 screens away, but this only works if I notice it as it starts getting back and have control enough to slideshow away) but 9 out of 10 times the only resolution is dumping to Char Select (if the UI is cooperative) or killing the game altogether. Things I have tried thus far: * Rebooting * Disabling/Enabling most/all Gfx Options (including windowed v fullscreen) * Setting Audio Channels to Low * Delete the ShaderCache and letting it rebuild * Disabling all MTX * Changed from Steam managed Proton version to GEProton9.27, no change * Adding multiple launch options, here's what I have currently: "__GL_SHADER_CACHE_SIZE=100000000000 LD_PRELOAD="" %COMMAND% --nologo --waitforpreload" At a complete loss, this has completely stopped my progression which is super annoying. Been gritting my teeth to push through but losing too much progress in t16s to actually be able to make any headway. My OS is EndeavorOS (Arch Kernel) Last bumped on Nov 4, 2025, 11:26:25 AM

Tried a bunch of other random things:
* Jumped on standard, confirmed happens on other builds (sadly it wasn't the pure glory of my build) * Updated my launch options to: __GL_SHADER_CACHE_SIZE=100000000000 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 LD_PRELOAD="" PROTON_LOG=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %COMMAND% --nologo --waitforpreload --noasync --nopreload --nosound I did generate a Proton log but don't see anything overly damning? https://pastebin.com/WG0Cwdj6 |

Ok, may be onto something.Theres a fix to set your ShaderCache to be much bigger as a launch option (GL_SHADER_CACHE) but that didnt work for me. But I have an AMD CPU/GPU, so I dont use Glide (I assume thats the nVidia drivers, never used em) I am using Mesa so tried this instead:
MESA_SHADER_CACHE_MAX_SIZE=10G %COMMAND% Seems to be working! Will report back in bit one way or another. edit: Took like 5min, still getting the same behavior. edit2: also found MESA_GLSL_CACHE_MAX_SIZE=(size), will try in the morning edit3: above also didnt resolve the issue Last edited by shatteredeagle#7466 on Nov 3, 2025, 8:47:02 PM

Bumping, the game is completely unplayable atm. Anyone have AMD gpu/cpu and found something to help with this Shader issue?

I run poe through Bottles via ge-proton10-21. In steam you should try switching to Proton Experimental (though it's unlikely going to change anything).
What cpu are you running? I assume it is sufficiently cooled.
Spoiler
I did have cooler trouble a few months ago and played poe possibly all day with a really high cpu temp and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, system didn't crash either
This is a long shot, but since I am an ssf nerd, I disable all the global chats. Does anything change when you disable chat, save for local and whispers? For the record, I am running a 9800x3d with a 7900xtx and I don't have any unordinary problems with this game. Be it on windows or proton/wine. edit: found https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3672080 on this forum as well, it's specifically about poe2, but there might be something. I have XTX and 13600k, gaming on Linux (Pop!_OS). No issues. Can I somehow assist you? Btw. is PoB broken for you too?

I have a 5800X3D and a 7900XTX, running 6.17.6-arch1-1 kernel. Should be crushing, and its very not :-/ CPU temps hover in low 70s, I have bTop running on my top monitor just to confirm my CPU isn't actually being overloaded.
Looking at the POE2 thread now! Rusty Path of Building is workin great! Last edited by shatteredeagle#7466 on Nov 4, 2025, 11:33:20 AM
