Really sad about Breach theming/design in Keepers
|
I am a huge fan of old Breach and really enjoyed the themes of each Breach variant. I thought it's really cool to see how domains of each element differed, and especially liked how creative all Breach monsters were even if they're just reskins of existing mobs. You can pretty much find nothing like them elsewhere in the game - with mechanics like Uul Netol's (spawn) bone spires stacking against you and trapping you, Tul's shrouds and golems, Chaluya's clone spam sometimes getting unbearable with monster mod combos etc it's almost like Breach monsters have their own game they're playing against you, and IMO that is the best way to design monsters in an ARPG.
So naturally I was super excited for new Breach content, but after playing for a bit I'm mostly just disappointed. The old theming is completely gone; instead of cool creative monsters with unique and memorable abilities we get what I'd call beyondslop of random demons that are way less distinct than even the Beyond rework. There's very few of them and they seem to barely have any abilities worth paying attention to. Maybe part of it is that as the game gets faster and faster whatever monsters do is worth less, but I just don't like it. It feels completely disconnected from the old Breach.
