[Suggestion] Allow "Lacerate of Butchering" to work with "Wings of Entropy"
| Hello, dear GGG! I would like to suggest a change that would expand build possibilities and enhance the synergy between a unique item and a skill gem. Suggestion: Allow the alternate quality gem Lacerate of Butchering to work with the unique two-handed axe Wings of Entropy. Justification: 1. Logical Inconsistency: The default Lacerate works perfectly with Wings of Entropy because its requirement is "Requires Sword or Axe". Lacerate of Butchering changes this requirement to "Requires a Two Handed Axe or Two Handed Sword". Wings of Entropy is a Two-Handed Axe, but the current game mechanics prevent the use of any skills that require a two-handed weapon while the Dual Wielding state is active. I understand that this is the current rule, as was the case with Sweep (as referenced in an old forum thread https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/748072). 2. However, the core mechanic of the original Lacerate inherently supports dual wielding with its alternating attack animation. It's unclear why Lacerate of Butchering was given a "Two-Handed Only" restriction from a mechanical standpoint. If the default Lacerate works with Wings of Entropy, it seems nothing fundamentally prevents its alternate version from doing the same, either as a special exception or by having it inherit the original Lacerate's weapon requirements when used with this unique axe. 3. Perfect Thematic and Mechanical Synergy: Wings of Entropy is a unique two-handed axe built around the mechanics of dual wielding and block. Lacerate of Butchering is a version of the skill tailored for two-handed weapons, featuring a wider second wave and a focus on pure hit damage instead of bleed. Combining the defensive capabilities of Wings of Entropy (block) with the aggressive advantage of Lacerate of Butchering (increased area and hit damage) would create a unique and flavorful build that fits the concept of both items perfectly. Furthermore, Wings of Entropy possesses excellent flat physical, fire, and chaos damage, which synergizes ideally with a skill focused on direct hit damage rather than Damage Over Time. 4. No Mechanical Conflicts: As correctly noted, Lacerate of Butchering does not possess any unique mechanics (such as a new animation) that would fundamentally conflict with the Dual Wielding state. It is essentially the same Lacerate but with altered numerical values and a different requirement. Allowing them to work together would not break game balance but would instead open up a new niche for builds. A Personal Case and Supporting Data: I planned to start the league with a Lacerate of Butchering Gladiator, using Wings of Entropy as the core item. This would allow me to benefit from all the dual-wielding bonuses from the Gladiator's Ascendancy and passive tree, while utilizing the alternate version of Lacerate focused on pure hit damage. I could also scale some two-handed damage nodes. Here is an example of the build I wanted to play: https://pobb.in/dSjib9XF-pfR. However, when I went to test this combination before the league start, I encountered the disappointing reality: Lacerate of Butchering does not work with Wings of Entropy. This issue is reflected in the game's statistics. Despite a significant buff (nearly doubling its damage) in a previous patch, Wings of Entropy is still used by only about 0.01% of players according to poe.ninja (https://poe.ninja/builds/mercenaries?items=Wings+of+Entropy&sort=dps). Similarly, Lacerate of Butchering sees very little use (https://poe.ninja/builds/mercenaries?skills=Lacerate+of+Butchering&sort=dps). Allowing this underutilized skill and this underutilized unique to work together would be a perfect way to boost their viability. Why this change would be beneficial for the game: 1. Increased Build Diversity: It would give players a new and interesting combination to experiment with, revitalizing two underused game elements. 2. Strengthening a Unique Item: Wings of Entropy is an iconic item. This change would finally realize its potential and increase its relevance. 3. Removing an Artificial Limitation: The current restriction feels illogical in this specific case. The theme and mechanics of the item and skill are a perfect match, and their union would create a cohesive and powerful build identity. I would be very happy if you considered this possibility.
