Abyss lich ascendancy point "steward of kulemak" crashes the game

1. choose Abyss Lich Ascendancy
2. choose steward of kulemak
3. perform profane ritual
4. gain power charges
5. perform either essence drain or contagion

this is the point that hard crashes the game for me, I've tried the following actions without the specific ascendancy point and the game doesn't crash, i presume its to do with the skill abyssal apparition which is what steward of kulemak grants, which is supposed to summon an apparition of you once you cast a spell that consumes a power charge and performs the skill again
