perfect essence of battle issue

I used a perfect essence of battle on a crossbow thinking the effect would give +projectile skill ranks. unfortunately it only gave +attack skills which does nothing on crossbow. Is this a bug if not why isn't there an essence for projectiles if spells and attack skills have one.
