Instance Freeze and reload

Hi,

Ever since the 0.2.0 release the game has been freezing then either crashing or resetting area progress and reloads the game at least once a map/area every time you reload it including hideout or town.

I have tried multiple "fixes" but nothing works.

Fixes Tried:

- Swapping and using Vulkan and Dx12.
- Increasing GPU Cache size to 10Gb instead of default
- Lower Shadow + GI quality
- Delete and recreate Shader files
- Validate game files
- Reinstall game
- Graphics drivers update (automatic and manual)

Specs:

- Nvidia RTX 3060 TI 12GB
- 36GB 5600 RAM
- 2TB NVM

Does anyone else have this issue or a fix for this.

I've emailed support and got this response.

Please post a DxDiag.

There's a step-by-step guide here if you aren't familiar with them.
GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.

No ads, trackers, or other weird stuff.

Thanks.

Essentially, what I believe to be happening is a driver TDR - Windows is deciding the driver for your video card has stalled, and so it pulls the old "turn it off and on again". That's why there's a moment of ~nothing, and then signs of, say, the card's VRAM having been cleared out.

This became more common overnight after one of GGG's updates - but, To Be Fair™ to them, 1) they probably shouldn't be able to do this, at least without trying and 2) they aren't trying. Like, Paths of Exile 1 and now 2 have both been... historically rather good, accidentally, at uncovering system stability - because they push systems to the brink. They just dialled that up to 11.

Off the top of my head, you've a few options;

  • Dive into RegEdit and tell Windows to wait for longer in future.
  • If you're comfortable your system's got the cooling for it, you could try slightly upping the voltage for your GPU in the hope that this helps improve stability.
  • You could try nudging slightly downwards your GPU's core clock & memory clock, in case one of those is running so fast that it's just on the cusp of being unstable.
  • NVIDIA's drivers have been comically awful all year - you could always try dredging up one from, say, December last year and see if that proves to be more stable overall

I... don't love any of these options.

Like, if you try the first one and do it wrong, the best case scenario is using Command Prompt to fix your system, but the more likely outcome is probably a fresh Windows install.

If you want to put off messing around with any of the above, you could try specifically trying to reproduce the issue in a Clean Boot without opening any other programs (e.g. Discord and other programs with overlays, or web browsers with Hardware Acceleration enabled).

If you can't reproduce in the clean boot, then you know the issue is being caused by the combination of the game client and something else on your system. It's a start.

I appreciate the effort you did to respond in great detail about the issue. i have indeed looked into editing my registry keys, but L've decided to leave it be as is.

I have spent to much money on burning out components because of OC'ing, so I'll steer clear of that as well . xD

It never even occurred to me to try the driver downgrade. so i will give that a go.

Again thanks for the help because you seem to be doing more that most.
