South african servers lag
I have recently been experiencing intense lag on the servers, it is very intermittent and after extensive testing i have concluded that my ISP is not at fault
I have run a continuoes ping to 8.8.8.8 and are getting an average of 10ms latency with a max of 25ms, while this test was running, my latency shot up to around 22000ms with average spikes ranging from 30ms all the way to 600ms intermittently Last bumped on Sep 5, 2025, 3:37:00 AM

Ive done a WinMTR test to the SA server and this is what I get back.

i have also run the test and can clearly see the data is dropping outside of my local network |

" You have packet loss beginning in your home network; | Host - % | Sent | Recv | Best | Avrg | Wrst | Last | |------------------------------------------------|------|------|------|------|------|------| | S3ZA.S3ES1 - 1 | 480 | 478 | 1 | 2 | 103 | 7 | That's your router; your computer sent 480 echo requests and received only 478 responses. my home network dropped 2 of 480 packets
but if you look at point 9 and 10 you can see 4% of packet loss, which is significantly worse than the 2 packets dropped within my home network. Point 9 seems to be a peering connection or Bandwidth provided through Jinx and point 10 is a private IP address so this is likely within the hosting domain that the SA servers are hosted on. Point 9 and 10 are a much larger cause for concern, as packet loss and latency that i would experience does not match up to the ones that get recorded in game |

" Packet loss is inherently unstable; you'll never see a uniform e.g. 1% at every hop. The difference is not statistically significant. If it went from 1% to 20%, I'd be interested, but... thats not how networks function, networks dont inherently run with packet loss, but im fine accepting that some packet loss wouldnt affect the game to the degree that it is being affected, however the 2000ms of latency is definitely a point of concern.
I would expect in country latency to go up to high double digits and even low triple digits(120ms at most) but seeing data go up to 2000+ms of latency needs to be investigated. |
