Well of souls "cannot generate mod"

Just got to the well of souls for the first time. I put my desecrated staff into the slot. When I hit "reveal" the box below goes black and I get an error message that says "cannot generate mod" logged on and off multiple times. I've done in it and out of a party. I also reinstalled but have the same issue.

Must be something with the actual weapon maybe? Put it in the guild stash and when they attempted it the same thing occured. Staff is a Torment Song Ashen Staff
