Game keeps randomly crashing

Hey, I can play sometimes for hours, but also sometimes just for some minutes until either my PC or just the game crashes.

When my PC crashes its a bsod with the error vgk.sys and some kernel issues. Im aware this is related to Riot Games Vanguard system, but if possible Id still like to fix this without having to remove Vanguard every time I want to play PoE.

I have an Intel i7-13700KF and Im also aware that this specific CPU has a bunch of issues with itself, I used to have it fixed tho with recent BIOS and CPU driver updates tho. But I have issues now again and idk why.

Something that I did find was that apparently my RAM is making issues too, especially the XMP settings it seems, but I barely know anything about this so idk what I can do to fix this myself.

On my last crash I had these error codes found on the event viewer in windows if this helps:

0x68b378da 0xc0000005 0x000000000108bd7f

Stuff that I changed so far to try to fix this myself:

Update all possible drivers, set the game to DirectX12, synch my p core clock ratio to 54 and have my XMP settings set to the preferred settings (Hynix XMP based on my RAM)

Idk if maybe I just have to turn XMP off? But people always say XMP is for having better performance of my CPU/RAM? As I said, I dont know much about XMP, so if u can tell me something about it Id appreciate it.

Heyo,

First and foremost - XMP is technically an overclock, so it's good for performance, but bad for stability. They're usually a rather 'safe' form of overclock, so it's unlikely to be responsible - but it's definitely worth testing with XMP disabled just in case. Notably, RAM-related issues are one of the more common causes of the 0xc0000005 Blue Screen of Death you mention.

It's up to you - but just to set expectations, GGG do not themselves provide Technical Support, so anyone responding is just going to be a community member who's spending their spare time trying to do you a solid. The only reliable form of troubleshooting is to methodically work through a process of elimination, remove any potential aggravating factors, and then see where the data leads us.

You won't be pleased, but that means;

  • Uninstalling Vanguard until testing concludes.
  • Disabling XMP until testing concludes.
  • Reversing any and all other UEFI changes you've made until testing concludes.
  • Digging through lots of fun log files and debugging data.

The reason for that is we just won't get to the bottom of anything if there's a bunch of murky factors that are 1) potentially causing BSoDs, and, 2) potentially masking other causes of BSoDS - it's possible Vanguard isn't causing the BSoD, but is instead being blamed erroneously.

The goal is to get your system to a state where nothing ever crashes. Then we can gradually, one step at a time, begin undoing our changes to see which program installs and / or settings changes introduce instability. Then, either we can find a solution or workaround to those, or you can at least make an informed choice about whether the culprit(s) is / are worth it to you. No judgement here - you might as well not have a PC if you can't use it for what you want to.
GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.

No ads, trackers, or other weird stuff.
Honestly, I can just try turning XMP off, like, Im pretty sure I got a decent PC, will I even feel a different of having it on and off myself? If it just makes me not crash then idc if I lose some performance I dont even see.

And thanks for the throughout explanation, I'll try anything u throw my way.
