What processor to choose for POE 1 & 2

Greetings Exiles,

System requirements are irrelevant here
I'm talking 8 mod fully juiced deli maps
Deli/breach maps in poe2

There is no solid test, Seen some videos with people running 8 mod maps, but that's it.

I'm thinking 7500f have to bare minimum, but I'm leaning towards 7800x3d(I'm playing mostly online games, so it's not gonna be an overkill)

What you guys experiencing with those cpu's or similar in perfomance cpu's?

Modern CPUs generally tend to lean heavily towards adding more cores at the expense of single-core performance (e.g. lower clock etc.)

If you're running an application that cannot be parallelised, then only 1 core can run that application and the rest of the cores are useless.

Now this is pure speculation on my part that: in juiced conditions PoE is limited due to single-threaded CPU performance as chain damage calculations cannot be parallelised.

Generally, it's a good idea to get hold of a CPU that has better single-threaded performance even if you sacrifice some additional cores. Unless, you plan to run heavily parallelised simulations.
Yeah, Older games tend to use less cores and they load cores unevenly. Matter of fact, honestly idk about poe, but a lot of old games don't use all cores above 8 sometimes even above 4/6.

But I'm more curious about fps dips with those kind of processors. How bad is it :D
It does make sense for older games to use no more than 4/6/8 cores because that was the highest number of cores in CPUs at that time. You would want to request no more threads than the actual number of cores.

Requesting more threads than cores (8 threads when you only have 4 cores) will result in overhead and worse performance (compared to 4 threads on 4 cores).

Or, there could be a limit on number parallel actions happening in-game.
Never ran 8mod deli in poe2 and I don't have a matching cpu either (5800x3d), but it would be interesting to know what ur requirements are.

What resolution are u going to play and how much fps do u want in those maps?

I don't think there are many setups that can run those maps flawlessly right now, because fps dip pretty quickly in some scenarios in PoE2.

So, if I were u I'd go for the best gaming CPU available, which is basically the 9800X3D. Maybe someone with that CPU can tell u more about how those maps perform.

For PoE the 7800X3D should be enough.

To play comfortably in juiced content with quad you'll need a space station. Aiming for around hundred with full hd. With low settings in 1st and mid-to high in 2nd.
If you can afford a 9800X3D it's the best cpu by far for many games including poe. Overclocking ram can can also give more frames and run the game on a nvme with dram cache for faster loading.
