Asian servers - ping changes from 40 to 400 when I change a zone
I live on Far East of Russia. It is 9000km form Moscow and 800 km from Japan.
Obvious choose for me, obviously, Asian server. But playing on Singapore, Australia or Japan servers for me is a slot machine - I start game with 40 ping in hideout, I start, for example, campain - for several zone I play with stable 40-50 ping, but then, randomly, I join to a different realm (I suppose) and ping rises to 350-400ms. If I back to previuos zone and restart new zone with ctrl+click and create new instance I can get 40mc back again. Sometimes it takes several tries. But that's not an option for mapping or accendacy trials. Next option for was to choose Moscow realm, it has stable 110-130 ping for me. But now this realm is no longer supported and that's a tragedy for me. On Europe realms I got 180+ ping. Still stable, but little bit clunky, of course. So my question is why Asian severs have this difference in latency and why I join to servers with high ping, yet I must join to a server with a lowest latency? It seems, I join to some US backup servers? It happens in PoE1 and PoE2. Pls elp. Last bumped on Aug 29, 2025, 11:40:28 PM

It's hard to comment on your situation with certainty with the information provided thus far. If you read the sticky thread, follow the guide in MTR and Connectivity Issue Primer, and post a WinMTR log created while experiencing the issue in a 'bad' zone, we'll have more to go on.
If a particular gateway reaches maximum capacity and is unable to generate new instances, instead of placing people in a queue the game will offload them to a "nearby" location. That could be what's happening here, but it's not possible to say so conclusively - it's just the most likely explanation. GGG do not offer first-party Technical Support.

" Thank you for the reply! Here are the results: https://pastebin.com/5Q1vR5yQ - Japan realm, just joined, 40ms latency in town according to in-game metrics. https://pastebin.com/DzyBeR8c - Singapore realm, Lunaris Temple, 107ms latency. https://pastebin.com/Z13nBwiv - Singapore realm, The Harvest, 145-155ms latency (graph looks like this: /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/) Unfortunately, I couldn't find a Japan realm with high ping, because servers are basically empty (I get this trouble mostly in peak hours when game is crowded). I will try again next week in PoE2 at league start and will update results. Btw, in login screen, window with gateways showns me 388 ping to Japan and 330 to Singapore, 110 to Moscow. |

Update.
So as I said after new league start, I join to random 40-350ms instances. Yes, I'm talking right now about PoE2, but I get the same picture in PoE1, there's no difference. Here is logs from the city (Ardura Caravan, Japan realm (according to Whois IP belongs Japan), 37ms latency): https://pastebin.com/8dcuJxME And that's what happens when I go to another location (Keth, same realm, 125ms, Singapore IP???, but this is still doable): https://pastebin.com/PnZ0Q1TU And next location, worst scenario (Titan grotto, same realm, unstable 370ms ping, some Google IP, located I don't know where, in US, maybe?): https://pastebin.com/jhqicrxL Since Moscow is unavailable, I have to play with 250+ms on Amsterdam. Please help, GGG =( |
