Re leveling with right mercenaries is literally cheating

with an overleveled mercenaries, and geared, in SSF, re leveling is like a joke, for example my character at gauntlet event (char name - distractiion), lv 63 with mer, atc 8 to act 10 was challenging, they now is a joke literally, considering some change for this, thanks!!

merc usage at all points in the game is basically cheating. That is the level of power they bring

No one is forcing you to use them. Here is an idea, dont use them if you dont enjoy them
Leveling a new build is the only reason I'll use mercs. Running through acts is such a terribly tedious and boring slog that any kind of assistance would do wonders in speeding up the process.

If you don't like them, don't use them, and hope GGG doesn't make them go core, for all our sakes.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

And the winds will cry / and many men will die / and all the waves will bow down / to the Loreley

mercs only for leveling would actually be really really good
We should actually be able to "hire" the masters we unlock as we progress through the story, prior to maps. For example, once you unlock Niko in Act 4 you can then hire the Niko mercenary which would have a specific set of customizable skills based on his lore. Same with Alva. Same with Jun, etc. We wouldn't get to gear them, but we would be able to have some degree of customization on offense vs defense, skill usage based on a set list of possibilities, skill supports, etc.

And THEN: when we get to maps, we can unlock them again using atlas passives (similar to Huck or Einhar). Again, can't change their gear and maybe they don't die, but they offer some utility and/or power that is balanced for the specific area level and NOT based on level.

That could be an interesting mercenary system I could maybe get behind.

As to the "just don't use them" excuse.....that isn't a solution to the widespread problems they bring to the ENTIRE game. Because contrary to what you might think, "Just don't use them" doesn't really do anything. Sure, the game isn't PvP and there isn't a (obvious) direct effect of one player using a mercenary versus another player NOT using a mercenary. However, Mercenaries most certainly have an impact on the entire balance of the game, far outside our own personal experience, and deep into the future development and balance. Whether we personally choose to use them or not. Need proof? See SSF. Or Hardcore. Or best example is Ruthless. Decisions regarding the overall game (which is essentially softcore trade) have a ripple effect across ALL of the game.

Honestly... /thread. This is objectively true and there's nothing else to add.
