Bowyer’s Rawhide - Quality Item for Bows & Xbows
Currently, it doesn't make sense a Blacksmith's Whetstone is used to improve the quality of Bows and Xbows. I would like to propose a new quality item called "Bowyer’s Rawhide" for improving Bows and Crossbows specifically. Medieval bowyers often used rawhide, a traditional bow-making material, to improve the durability of bows.
Bowyer’s Rawhide * New currency item that adds quality to Bows and Crossbows Last edited by CharlesJT#7681 on Aug 2, 2025, 10:41:49 AM Last bumped on Aug 2, 2025, 10:43:53 AM

" That's a pretty solid argument. Don't you find it odd that a whetstone would improve a bow? A sword yes, but a bow no. I think it fits fantasy better to have a bowstring quality item for bows and xbows. Last edited by CharlesJT#7681 on Aug 2, 2025, 10:42:03 AM

I get what you're thinking thematically, but I'm not sure we need another quality currency to try to collect. I'd almost just as soon have actual archanist/bowyer/armourer/blacksmith characters in the game that you pay to upgrade your stuff and who carry a merchant's inventory of their kind of thing. Maybe even give a way to level them up so they can go beyond the current +20% quality maximum eventually.

You don’t improve a bow by adding more bowstrings to it ya foo.
Like using a whetstone to maintain an edge on a blade, you use wax to maintain the string. 🙂🙃🙂🙃 |

" 100% I've come to realize this is part of what I'm not enthused about the rune system for. It's immediately a ton of bloat where in PoE1 the crafting bench did the same job infinitely better without adding 500 random things that are mostly worthless to the drop pool. At least I'm not getting the minor ones at high levels anymore. |

" Agreed and updated OP to "Bowyer’s Rawhide" as medieval bowyers often used rawhide to improve durability of bows. Last edited by CharlesJT#7681 on Aug 2, 2025, 10:45:23 AM
