Skill gem link with support question

Hello, I am hoping someone may be knoughledgeable in the game and be able to answer a question on Gems with support. I am working on a build and the build asks:

Eternal Blessing (red)
-Frostblink (blue)
Grace (green)

The frostblink is showing to be linked to Eternal Blessing. The thing that confuses me is that Eternal Blessing is a support gem, frost blink is a skill. It could be reversed, but the game tells me that eternal blessing isn’t compatible with frostblink. It is compatible with Grace. But the build shows it different. Could a support gem still provide benefits even if not linking with “supported gem”?

I want to say that I would need to change to link with Grace so it would “highlight” as it is supported but not sure.
