is lower rank more efficient than higher rank for gold only? so for the most gold efficient workers, use rank 1 with 1 skill?

If your goal is to ONLY save gold, then sure.

But if your goal is also to actually produce something and get shit done in that damn town, then always go for level 5 workers.

It depends on their wage. Level determines their output/hour, but not necessarily their gold/output.

Ex, a level 1 farmer makes 144 Corn/hour, a level 5 makes 504 Corn/hour. My cheapest lv1 Farmer is 1.55g/corn, and my cheapest lv5 Farmer is 1.31g/corn, but my most expensive lv5 Farmer is 1.92g/corn

Depends on the actual worker. And off-job workers (Miners esp) may be more gold-efficient at for example Farming than actual Farmers.

Here is something to keep in mind - when rerolling don't go for the 20k option. The workers that come up are actually specialized in multiple things, so they will be naturally more expensive. Just keep rerolling for 2k
