Coiling whisper counting party member curses

In party playing using coiling whisper it specifically says that "your Hex's Duration" but my party member has a despair aura active, it overrides the curse duration, we have 2 curse limit (they do) and my curse is applying and expiring visually, but i am not getting souls from it. Bug, intended or weird interaction?
