Helmet prefix and suffix sharing the same mod group

It appears that on helmets, the "socketed elemental skills deal 30%more damage" horror essence suffix and the "socketed gems are supported by lvl# less duration" Elder prefix are mutually exclusive.

This is confirmed by craft of exile and PoEDB both showing that these mods belong in the same mod group named "supported".

However, these third party tools are not affiliated with PoE, so I searched the trade website for "any" (instead of online) listing, both in standard and in Mercenaries, for helmets with both of the aforementioned mods. No such listing was found. This strongly suggests that the two mods cannot coexist.

I wonder if this interaction of prefixes and suffixes being exclusive is intended, since they are not similar mods at all. Other perfixes like "socketed gems are supported by increased area of effect" can coexist with the horror essence suffix just fine.

Thank you!

It is a hybrid mod

https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/List_of_modifiers_for_helmets_(strength)
https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Modifier:AreaOfEffectSupportedUber3

You can request GGG to completely nerf it by also adding "Supported" mod group (family) to that mod

Just like Temple mod now has both "damage taken as" and resistance mod group, and in the past there is only resistance mod group

And every other "socketed gems are supported by X" mods? They're are already in the proper mod groups. It's just less duration is weird.
do you understand hybrid mod?

List non-hybrid mod that are "Supported by Xyz" and it is not in "Supported" mod group?

It does appear to be the case that for helmets, hybrid mods are not in the "supported" mod group. And the non-hybrid "supported by lvl# ..." mods are in the "supported" mod group.

However, for boots, the elder and shaper "supported by life leech" and "supported for fortify" non-hybrid prefixes do not appear in any mod group. And it seems they can coexist. So at least the "rule" you described above is inconsistent in this way.

I'm not sure this has anything to do with the subject. neohongkong's argument seemed to be that in hybrid "socketed gems are supported by X" mods, the second stat determines for what mod group they fall into. So say "supported by conc effect/increased area damage" mod belongs to AreaDamage group thanks to the latter stat. And without the determining stat, the mod would allegedly be in "miscellaneous" Supported group.

Even if it was consistent and every single-stat'ed "socketed gems are supported by X" mod was in Supported group, that would anyway be wrong. The reason mod groups exist is to prevent certain mod combinations* from appearing on an item. The concept of a "miscellaneous" mod group just doesn't serve this purpose. There's no point in restricting mods from appearing together just because they're uncategorised.

*mostly combinations of mods with similar/same stats. At least you can expect that it's impossible to roll a normal "+ max life" on top of "+ max life" from essence of greed. But you can't expect that for "supported by less duration" on top of "socketed gems deal 30% more ele damage", especially when you know it's possible for "supported by conc effect" and "supported by trap and mine damage".

What i mean is, mod group is something arbitrary design by GGG.

So that all non-hybrid supported by mod is in one mod group. At least for hybrid mod in helmet it is not. Meanwhile i think hybrid "supported by" mod no longer spawn in weapon at all.

damage taken as hybrid mod used to be not in "damage taken as" mod group, but now it is. It is not a bug if it is something GGG want to design like that in helmet case, and not that case in glove or boots
