Blight wholly unusable on console #1305237480

How is it that this machine can run Warzone with THOUSANDS of textures, audio, other players, effects etc but struggles to populate a blight encounter? Is there something I'm missing about game design?

Yes. How many monsters do you think end up on your screen at once in Blight? How many textures do you think each of those monsters has? In addition to skill effects and so on?

Path of Exile has never been known as a performance king, but it's perfectly normal in games that have large monster density, especially with AoE and DoT effects. There's a LOT of calculations going on every frame, both for the engine and for the graphics.

Are you on a previous-gen console? (e.g. PS4)

If so, you might want to try turning sound off completely. It can improve performance. Use the main volume slider in the game. Unlike on PC, this actually stops the sounds from being calculated in the console version. (On PC, you have to edit a config file to get this effect).

Another thing is... Your build might just be bad at Blight. If you kill the monsters quickly, the performance should stay good.
I am running on the PS5 currently - I will try turning off the sound. It hadn't occurred to me that that could affect performance.
Breach, harbinger, legion and harvest run decently well. Perhaps the numbers for blight are way higher?
The irony of the ultimate answer to this quandary is not lost on me: git gud LMAO
Perhaps when I have slotted in all the endgame gear for this saboteur rolling magma mine build and I'm hitting the 26M DPS like Jizzaran I can run blight.
Thanks

Oh! Haha. This is one of the builds I'm playing this league.

Yes, the performance under certain circumstances can get... bad, when you're producing hundreds of bouncing balls all doing AoE damage to hundreds of monsters.

I never had any particular issues finishing blight with it, but that *is* probably a damage thing. I didn't really do any blight until the character was quite well geared.

Below this is some advice on your character... if you don't want, just don't read it.

Not sure if you're doing gem swaps for single target, but, if not, you may want to ditch slower proj support for something else. Slower Proj is great for single target damage, but it hurts your clear and just generally slows you down in any non-bossing situation.

Goratha (one of the inventors of the build) says Greater Volley is better than Volley. I don't know if he's right, but you may want to try it. It probably depends on exactly how much AoE you have which one is better single target, but GV is definitely better clear.

I notice that very few (if any) of your support gems have quality. Do know about the "gem flipping" recipe? You can vendor any level 20 support gem with a single GCP, and you get back a level 1 version with 20 quality. If you're going to play enough to level them back to 19 or 20, this is well worth doing. Do note that if you flip them all at once, it can be a pretty big short term damage loss, so you may want to go do some low level content until they get a bunch of levels (which will happen fairly quickly, since the first 10 or so levels require very little XP, and gems don't suffer the level-difference XP penalty).

I'm a bit confused by your anoint of Utmost Might... did you just need the strength for gem requirements? If so, it would better to eventually get the strength on gear and do either a damage or defense anoint.

I'm guessing you're looking to replace your gloves. When you do, make sure to get some good implicits on them, like you have done for most of your other gear.

Likewise, your Amethyst ring and your belt have low rolls on the implicit values. If you don't play on replacing them soon, you should use Bless orbs to get higher values.

That's from a once-over on the website. If you want more detailed help, I can import the character into PoB and take a closer look.

I dunno how you saw my stuff but that is all super helpful information. I had no idea about the vendor recipe. STR anoint on ammy is for Enduring cry.
Had no idea about the vendor recipe at all!
I will try some different combos of gems for clearin

Your account is "public" (most players are after a while, because it needs to be in order to use PoB or similar tools), which means anyone can click on your account name here in the forum, then click "characters", then select your platform and see all your characters. You could look at my characters, if you want to. Or almost anyone else.

The default is private, or at least it used to be. But, like I said, if you've ever used any of the tools, like Path of Building, you have to set your account public in order to do so.
