Rules clarification on Contagion and Sunder the Flesh

Sorry if someone has posted this before.

Can I get a rules clarification on the interaction between this spell and this Blood Mage passive, please?

Contagion has a 0% base crit chance. It is tagged as a Spell (AoE, Chaos, Duration).

RTFC (read the fucking card) tells me that if I pick Sunder the Flesh, Contagion should have a 15% base crit chance. Seasoned POE players are telling me DoTs CANNOT crit.

What is the actual interaction here? Is DoT hardcoded to not crit, or do DoTs just have 0% base crit chance, and this passive is a unique break to the game?

I would love to know this as well. A crit chaos spreader would be awesome lol.

Only hits can crit.

Check Essence Drain in comparison, it has a Hit and a DoT, the Hit part can crit, but crit does nothing for the DoT part.
