Ping issues has been really bad lately

Hi,

I am from Malaysia and I play in the Singapore realm. The ping has been quite bad in this league (actually it started maybe in 3.22). It's not only me, other players from other countries that use SG realm are also facing the same issue. I know this because I browsed the technical support forum for solutions and I also have messaged other players in the game via global chat and whispers when I traded with other players that are in the SG realm. The two main issues we are facing are:

1. Constant high ping. Throughout the day, my ping in POE was normally 30ms. However, since last month our ping is constant at 169-200ms in most instances. However, in 1/20 instances we will get my normal ping of 30ms. In the acts, this isn't a problem because you can change the instance if needed but it's normally not needed as the acts is not so punishing. However, this is a major problem post acts when using the map device to open maps and bosses. If I get 165-200ms, the game is not playable on the higher tier maps or bosses. Going out and going back in does not do anything as the instance is the same, meaning the ping will be 165-200ms. This is only in POE, when I checked other games my ping is still 30ms.

2. Bad ping spikes. During peak hours (2000-0200 hours, Singapore time) the ping spikes are really bad. It can go up to 1000-2000ms which makes the game unplayable also.

High chance it may not be my ISP as I checked with other players from other countries. The game isn't playable with the two issues in both softcore and hardcore. I know the SG realm player base isn't that high but we really enjoy the game. Any chance we will get a staff reply as we been asking about this since two leagues ago.

This has been a reported problem many times.
(singapore, sing > japan, brazil, S.Africa, etc..)

The only thing you can do is WinMTR and post it here for visibility.

Some areas players are able to reroute via VPN, but I don't think it will work for your location...
but you're welcome to try... set the vpn to UDP if you try.

The issue is likely in the middle of the run on a backbone.
You'll normally see a large jump in ping times mid route or a massive amount of packet loss mid route. One or both will continue from the problematic starting point to the end of the trace.

Do a WinMTR as when you aren't having issues as a base to know what things should look like.

Then run one when you are having the high ping issues.

post them back here in your thread

Edit: I have seen an instance server issue ping issue like you describe swapping zones, but it's very rare for me. I play on DC/TX.
The 2000ms issue I'm still thinking a mid route issue exists.
I'd still recommend the test though for exposure.

So, a couple things...

This doesn't show your connection in the bad 1000-2000ms ping nor does it show a great optimal 30ms ping that you're expecting.

Ideally new traces showing a consistent 30ms ping at the end of the trace and another showing the extremely high 1000ms+ ping at the end of the trace.

Secondly, in the images below the orange box is showing a 100ms+ ping on your own network between you and your router. This can easily happen over Wi-Fi or if someone is utilizing your bandwidth for a moment. This may have been a one off ping, but it was still captured during the test.

The red boxes are where you're likely seeing the irregular ping spikes starting. This servers.com connection has been reported here a few times when players are having ping issues.

I think a few more tests when you you run into issues would be a good idea.

Thanks for helping out. A few more tests as in run WinMTR a few more times and get the results? The 1000-2000ms, I mention only happens during peak hours.
Yeah, definitely try to get a normal ping capture with normal 30ms or so all the way to the bottom with no high max pings.

And yes, later during peak hours try to get some captures of the high pings... more than 1 if you want. (yes WinMTR)
This is the result of an instance with 35~ms from earlier today. (https://pastebin.com/F5SZsmbL). Will try to get one with the large ping spikes later.
no rush just whenever it happens

any idea why your ping to your router 192.168.1.1 is high ping spiking still and has occasional packet loss? (0, 6, 206)

This one I am not too sure but that spike in ping is manageable as it doesn't happen that often. I tried searching for solutions, changing settings and calling my ISP to fix it but no luck. My knowledge in this area isn't that good.
Just wanted to drop here to also say that I'm having this issue too and I'm from Malaysia. My ping will constantly be stuck at 150+ and it's totally unplayable sometimes. Went to other servers but it's still the same thing so it's kind of disheartening that I can't play my fav game properly.
