Non vaal strike multistrike

Does one cancel the other, I've been playing long enough where I want to try and make a character on my own without too much help from guides. So does multistrike work with non vaal strike or is it wasted socket space.
I'm hobbling a infernal strike gladiator together. Why? I don't want to be dying all the time and glad is a safe choice. Sorry if this isn't in the right thread.

what do you mean? Multistrike is a support, there is no vaal version.

I think he is talking about the specification of whether or not its a vaal skill, like the tagging on strike additional targets says non vaal. Its specifically talking about the vaal button. Not the regular skill when there is wording that multistrike cannot support vaal skills.

If you link multistrike to vaal lightning strike for example, regular lightning strike is supported properly, just not whenever you hit the vaal lightning strike button.

Sorry I should of asked more clearly, currently when I attack two red shades appear and strike extra targets. Ancestral cry I believe. I tried equipping multistrike to repeat the attacks and damage faster but fail to see a difference. Did I foul something up or is it not possible. The question came up when I saw non vaal strikes target additional target on the skill tree. I hope I've explained myself.

Oh, you cant exert attacks whenever you use multistrike. Ancestral cry has to be exerted to strike additional targets.

look at the ancestral cry gem and hit alt.

"attacks which repeat cannot be exerted"
