Losing your full Crew when abandoning/failing a Pirate Boss Fight is Terrible Design

I did not know this could happen since I never failed or abandoned a pirate fight but this time I was on my weaker 2nd char when they got kidnapped and near the end of the fight I got an important call I had to take and died while on the call.

Then I found out you can't go back in, you also can't pay the pirate off your only option is to abandon your entire crew and cargo. In my case a ship full of lvl9 shippers and 2 million loot.

I am lacking the words to describe how terrible this is and I don't think the game even warns you about this outcome before going into one of those fights.

What if the instance crashes or the server disconnects during one of those fights?
That is way too much progress to lose. This is the type of thing that makes one immediately quit the league when it happens.
