packet loss
Hi, I'm having an issue that keeps coming up every few minutes as I'm playing the game. I'll get a lag spike that shoots my ping into the thousands, the game freezes for a few seconds, then everything goes in super speed as the game catches up and my ping returns to normal.
Here's my winMTR: https://pastebin.com/krh5US06 Is this a game issue or an ISP issue? Last edited by freaker811 on Aug 14, 2024, 5:43:25 PM Last bumped on Aug 19, 2024, 3:12:44 AM

" You can't really tell from that test but I'd venture to say it's possibly a routing problem in the middle with twelve99. More testing needed especially when the issue is happening. Are you playing on WiFi? Last edited by ps7ekken on Aug 9, 2024, 6:33:57 PM

Playing on ethernet. This is happening pretty constantly (2-3 times a map)

" If it's ping / connection related then it should be pretty easy to catch with WinMTR while it's happening.. Unless it's a full disconnect which shoots your ping up to astronomical amounts and disconnects you. If the ping is spiking and bouncing then hope you catch it with WinMTR. | |
Just ran this winmtr while I was running a map pinging the same instance. I'm not really sure what to look for with this stuff.. https://pastebin.com/PyKmS9Ph
I haven't had any full disconnects so far, but my ping basically just runs up into the thousands for a few seconds before going back to normal. Next map was noticeably worse: https://pastebin.com/9zWYbvCH Last edited by freaker811 on Aug 9, 2024, 8:36:01 PM

I am still having the exact same issue. PLEASE GGG fix this. It's gotten really bad lately. I have changed setting on my side of the network for any and all fixes people have suggested and nothing is working. I have done WinMTR and consistently get 50% packet loss in two locations which are tied to GGG I believe. I don't want to go play Diablo 4, but POE is running so poorly, I might not have a choice. Too bad, this league is a LOT of fun... when I can play it.

Issue is still happening.. I ran this by my ISP and they said the packet loss was not on their servers.
Here's a recent winmtr: https://pastebin.com/nvvisDZi |

So the big thing that people don't know about with packet loss is ICMP Deprioritization, which basically amounts to an non issue, in the OP's case i'm sure that the 80% and 100% loss hops are the ones sticking out.
With packet loss it's hard to tell, my own connection has the first 2 hops perfect and the rest (barring the last few) being form 30% upwards BUT my connection is near perfect. With packet loss you need to follow the chain, if something (like the OP's) shows 1% and ends in 1% then you ARE getting 1% packet loss (not a major issue but would result in some stuttering) If it shows 1% then jumps to the tens of % then back down to 1% you can be sure that the higher value is ICMP Deprioritization. It's an easy one for the initiated to latch on to as being a problem. As for the OP, you are getting 1% packet loss (it should be zero but amounts to 4 packets) the other issue (and may not even be an issue) is the latency shown, it's not bad but there are "issues" The first hops average should be matching your best (this is literally the connection from your PC to your router assuming a wired connection) Your average over the while connection is getting close to 100ms while the worst can be over What we don't know is that if the the test was ran while you had the issues you described. Thanks for the response. I've been running these tests like this: when I get these lag spikes (>4000ms according to the latency in game), I'll go to my PoE logs and get the IP of the instance I'm connected to (like the map or my hideout or whatever) and I'll plug that into winmtr.
I just genuinely have no idea where the issue is really happening. Here's a new one I just ran while running a heist: https://pastebin.com/5DgaWPfP Last edited by freaker811 on Aug 17, 2024, 4:43:07 PM
