Cosmos Weapon Effect performance issues

Simply equipping the new Cosmos Weapon Effect from the Solar Supporter cuts my FPS almost in half.

Tested it fully zoomed out also, which only made it drop to 195 fps. Not as bad but still worrying.

The weapon effect also has a on-hit visual for every monster it hits. Obviously this causes some extra processing that otherwise wouldn't be there, so it's reasonable to expect a fps difference. Did a quick run through BA without the effect and rarely dropped to 140 fps, and never below.

Tried it again with the effect on and I spent a lot of time under even 100 fps. This is BA; not a juiced map.
