Ultimatum Encounters - Black Boxes

Periodically in Ultimatum encounters I'll get very large black boxes across my screen. I haven't been able to tie it to anything specific, but it's not every encounter. I think it has to do with a particular mob/spell being used? My screen will flash black (in chunks/quadrants) randomly throughout the encounter.
