Steam Servers are currently down

So, if you are trying to login via Steam, you will likely get "unexpected disconnect" or similar errors in the game client.

I've tried a few times, then investigated a bit, and it seems few if any people are able to connect to the steam servers for any game, friends, etc etc. The network is just unavailable for most right now.
