Bubonic Trail with 2 abyssal sockets?

Is this really worth something? Also, can I change the number of sockets and linking on that without risking loosing the abyssal sockets?

The abyss sockets are built into the item. You can't lose them. Yes, they're worth a lot. You can roll 50 flat life on 2 jewels + damage.
