The white portal (mouse over effect) between maps
The "mouse over" effect you have on "portal" areas connecting maps always looked unfinished to me. It takes a little bit from the immersion and the sense of overall connection between maps. It just feels a bit rough that you have a simple white , flat , opaque texture. Might be silly but it always put me off a bit and reminds me about the polygonal world underneath.
What else would I suggest? - since most areas do show a bit of the room extending beyond (ie. stairs going down, or a tunnel), the overlay effect could be less opaque? - perhaps with a sort of glow on the edges so the edges can be more opaque, but the center doesn't look so bland? To be fair I don't have a great suggestion for it, but the art in the game is so good overall this particular effct always seemed a little off to me. PS: come to think of it, you could also improve the feedback. It happens fequently that I click on such a portal (the areas connecting levels of a dungeon, and towns).. and then nothing happens.. and for half a second I double check if I clicked it.. then I see the text at top of screen that says it's loading... In terms of visual feedback there is practically no confirmation of the click. Along with updating the effect you could have a small visual cue immediately after clicking giving a better feedback. For example, the portal could glow briefly, or fade out, or become more opaque etc. In other words, you move the mouse over this white shape, you click, something should happen visually to tell the user/player that the click was registered, and the loading doesn't work since it can take some time.
