Brainstorming for Cutthroat pvp
My list of ideas:
1) Whenever someone enters your instance, "[Player's Name] has invaded your instance" would flash across the screen. 2) A 3-4 meter radius of every instance entrance/exit would be a safe zone to avoid camping. 3) x% chance to drop a piece of gear and a guaranteed chance to drop one item from inventory upon death. Stash space limited to one tab. 4) Upon invading an instance, you have to seek out the other player, but there will be some sort of marker to tell you that the player is still in the instance. If the invaded player leaves, perhaps it will tell the invading player [Player has left the instance.] Vice versa, if invading player leaves, then the invaded player gets notified. 5) The invaded player will get an arrow, kind of a GPS, pointing in the general direction of the invading player, giving the invaded player a home field advantage. 6) Log out takes 10 seconds, alt-f4 still keeps your character logged in for those 10 seconds. No fast escapes. 7) League-wide kill/death ratio kept track of. 8) Hardcore league will be available for this play style. 9) If the invaded player kills the invading player, he gets guaranteed drop of one inventory item and one equipped item. 10) Hardcore deaths guarantee full corpse pops, dropping all inventory/equipped items upon death. 11) Design gems/items around invading/defending instances (I.e. suffix/prefix of item that grants +% to armor when being invaded, or grants +% crit when invading etc.) 12) Not cutthroat related but give us damage numbers/combat log please, this game is long over-due for it. 13) When a player dies, have them drop an item *coughearcough* as a trophy or even a currency that can be used to craft (For perhaps invading/defending prefix/suffixes? hmm?) 14) Make town portal while being invaded be a 5 second cast. 15) Have a global death announcement upon pvp death. --> "Chris has slain Desync" 16) Give us damage numbers. 2 beta keys left!

The real problem is getting people to play it. You'll find, under that ruleset, that very few "prey" players will play, and all you'll have is a bunch of "preditor" players complaining about lack of prey.

What about something preventing lvl90+ to hunt low level for fun ?
I mean this sound cool and all but I don't see a proper way to introduce this kind of thing in an instanced game. | |
a lot of people find it enthusiastic but in reality very few would be still playing it after 3 days...

pvp right now is not balanced enough for this to really work.
at all levels of play there are clear winners that flat out dominate the competition glacial hammer builds come to mind here. and most people hate hardcore, and hardcore style game play. And i would imagine they would like it even less if the thing that kills them is a fellow player that knows how to exploit game imbalances to score unfair kills. That is the way i see it anyway. |

Wasn't there a 2 day cut throat race many months ago? Hilebert and another dude were around lvl 60 at the end where as the 20th person was probably lvl 30-40? and the rest were lower and lower.

" zana and your own hideout. People not in your party cant enter your portals and if they could you can make your portal unaccessable to them. Getting to maps is the point when you become safe actually. If you dont have zana you can close all your portals except one and then map. You lose loot but its onlt till you find a zana. " Optimising a build for PVP and mobs is quite difficult, with the "reversed" mechanic I proposed I think PVE players could simply level faster than PVP builds. And a new char doesn't even have one set of good gear for the most part. Getting PVP and PVE gear during leveling is hardly possible. Of course you could still equip low level chars with stuff found by your high level char... But if we excluded characters from the shared stash until they get to maps that problem would be solved. |
