As long as we get no real PVP modes and Maps, PVP is dead for me.
I love PvP. It is the pinacle of coming up with a tactic, knowing your strenghts and weaknesses and playing alonge these line against other players to see who can convert his tactics best against other teams.
I played MOBAs, I played RTS. I never was hardcore into it. I am the casual PVP player, who loves working with his assets. My best I could reach PVP wise was Diamond 3 last Season in LOL, and that does not say much, because yoloqueue. That said, PVP in POE is sad and boring. The simplest of PVP gamemodes "smash your heads in until 1 dies" does not open up tactical gameplay nor promotes build diversity. Even if it provides "some" distinction between builds and tactics, it all tricles down to 3~ "viable" builds. I want to see more gamemodes like CTF (and lets be honest, the simplicity and the fact, that there is only 1 goal and 1 possible target per team, namely getting the flag from A -> B to win). I want to see maps, where you got more then 1 Wincondition. I want to see maps, where killing the opponent might not be the best tactical move at a given time (although killing should allways net you some advantage in PVP; I'd rather see goals set to be accomplished by the player recognizing HOW, WHERE, WHO, WHY to go when given an advantage of numeral or positional nature). I'd love to see a DOTA/League/HerosOTS map, where you got PvE and PvP mixed. Gather at A, gain B. Kill Monster C, gain D. Capture point X, gain control of Acceleration shrine Y and vision on the part of the map Z. Be inventive with gamemodes. Hide Winconditions behind a chain of possible shortterm goals. Give Builddiversity a real Significance via Mapdesign. As long as PVP is: here is an arena , clobber to death, PVP will stay 1 dimensional and boring. Give us PVP Maps, where actual tactical savvy will win you a match over overgeard multiexalt mirrored gear. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1158669

TL;DR - I want PoE, an ARPG, to have PvP like MOBAs and RTSs.

" When putting it like that is may sound a little silly but I think almost everyone agrees that it is the team matches that are the most fun (when you can get players for them). So I dont think expanding on that would be that bad (assuming we had the players, wouldnt want more stuff like 6v6 ctf you wont ever get a match for).
another MOBA request thread.
" another false assumption. new FFA Arena and tweak the current map pool would be good.
" This is no assumption. 1vs1 datehmatch is boring. It may take some skill, but it is nothing compared to teameffort goals and coordination. I said what I wanted. If you want PVP to grow, add actual tactical maps beside hide and seek behind pillars/walls. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1158669

For what it's worth, I think CTF (or any other "objective-based" format you could probably come up with) is stupid, but I love 1-on-1 best of 7's. There might be some matchups that are unwinnable 1v1 but for the most part multi-round play is very interesting and challenging.
The game is about killing things, after all. This is making me miss cutthroat too.. I'm gonna stop now :(
" Oh yeah, I love those 1v1s where the point leader plays hide and seek after 1 or 2 points. "GGWP" my ass. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1158669

" hurr durr man fight all day everyday best pvp just keep going never go back never hide yolo swag
I played neverwinter pvp. Yes I know, pay to win yadda yadda, it is what it is. Why I am bringing it up was that they had a really neat and fun 5vs5 set of maps that required gaining as many of 3 points as you could and maintaining control in order to score points.
I have seen games go upwards of an hour when the teams were evenly matched. It required every aspect of play. Build, Strategy, skill, coordination. They had guilds that did nothing but these pvp instances. When 2 premades got queued it was like world war 3. I found it incredibly fun. Sometimes the margin of victory was so slim, that the match was decided by a single kill. |
