My feelings and personal feedback so far
I am just going to start this off by saying that most of my experience has come from LLD so this will mainly be about that. I've invested about 15ex into a bow ranger that does for the most part pretty well. Pvp has always been appealing to me, being able to test your abilities against another player, at least thats what I like my pvp for.
The 1vs1 matches for placement can be pretty rng. You will fight counters and face off against people that do not have much chance against your character, that is inevitable. I feel though LLD may hit a state in which we only see the few best builds. We commonly see right now, cyclone, molten strike, tornado shot and traps. This to me is excruciating as it comes then down counter / gear. Mechanically something needs fixing on how some moves that can hit multiple times deal their damage. This gives them the most advantage in lld pvp right now. Stun is extremely favourable for this moves that hit multiple times or that attack and have follow up hits. There is also another post on the damage penalty with how this works. I've had some real close and intense 1v1 matches but they are very rare. I feel this is as its peak when the gear difference is minimal. I do believe some skill is necessary, knowing when to move in for an attack or when you are out of position, potting is probably the most essential skillset of all though. If you waste your pots on a close match then you are most likely going to lose. Some matches though pots don't make much difference, this tends to be the counter / gear. I had a ton of fun for most events at the start but some fun has turned into frustration. Going into matches without a chance and being on the other end against someone that can't really deal any damage on you. Where I have had the most fun has been in 3v3 lld. This I feel allows room for more strategical play and balances out the strengths/weaknesses for some builds. Obviously though this requires you to put a team together to participate. HLD for me has been not enjoyable in the least. I've tried some and I have mostly gotten owned. I don't feel I want to invest enough to be able to fight some of the better HLD equipped players as it is very steep. I can see how it is appealing in the sense of more build options and variety but some of the top end gear is night and day difference when stacked up. There seems to be less HLD players but there are some definitely active and they do amazing in the events. I just personally feel it is too much in order to get anywhere near the top on a perm league for HLD. Temp could be much different in terms of the pvp pace. Maps.. Some of the maps as I have mentioned before are extremely favourable to trappers because of how the camera is positioned. You can see much further up above you as you can looking down. Some of the maps you can rush a lower part of the area and attack freely above you at your opponent. This is an unreal spot for trappers against almost every build. They can see you before you can see them, you most likely have to hit traps in order to see them partially or get into position to attack(melee) and the trap damage can be ridiculous. I lost 3 matches once to a trapper to this exact strat, I then rushed the bottom with blink arrow and had a comeback to win the match. I didn't allow him to setup and used the advantage of shooting up. These are just some feelings and experiences I have had so far from pvp. I'll be participating in more events to get some points as well as working on my ranger a bit more. I have really enjoyed some pvp but some aspects and fighting the same counters / builds can null the experience. Thanks for the read.
" The potion management seems to be one of the only skillful things in LLD anymore. But even then, you cannot pot fast enough to avoid the one shot mechanics of most trappers. Getting into position on most maps, and being able to shoot up,and get a vision advantage,is extremely annoying. Most of the game is decided within the first 5-8 seconds of a match I've noticed. Either the position, you one shot them,or you get one shot. The one shot mechanics shouldn't be in the game, from any class, doing any ability. In a PvP game,it's all about reaction time. There is obviously no reaction time in 1 shots, save this for the Uber bosses and such pls. Some skills do feel quite stronger than others, and because of this, more and more people are playing them, and only them. I've seen several people I know,as well as others I don't but recognize their names, changing builds to match the super strong abilities. There will not be much diversity in builds and play-style,if the skills mentioned so often in the forums aren't addressed. Last edited by MidWest on Dec 29, 2014, 8:40:37 PM

I have been trying to get gear / craft gear for a LLD on hardcore but this seems impossible to me. Can't get any of the crafting orbs, people aren't online to trade.. This really is a lot of work. My higher level character is really worthless in hardcore pvp and my lld guy is pretty sub par, random items + geofris.
I'd like to be able to invest a little to start working on this hardcore lld character but it isn't going anywhere atm. I don't want to see this as a whine post, I just would love to try all aspects of poe thoroughly as this game is my passion Last edited by terrex on Dec 31, 2014, 9:43:58 AM

" yeah if you haven't wealth in there from previous hc leagues it's impossible to craft anything there, Hardcore is the real temp league that last 1-2 weeks between seasons.
I have invested now into a HC LLD char a bit, it still has quite the ways to go in terms of completion. It's damage is pretty good from my bow, some of my gear is alright but I need to get away from tabula.
I am starting to have a chance in some matches but still get absolutely destroyed from fb / cyclone / traps. I use ROA to kill traps but you cant always see them place it offscreen and unfortunately run on top. What bothers me the most is the damage in pvp, I still feel it isn't anywhere near penalized enough. To make more actions matter there needs to be longer matches in which player decisions will make a difference. If the damage is lowered, flasks will become more important, not spamming them right away or being topped off all the time and instead have an ongoing battle. There will still be all in spam matches but this instantly killed 1 shot bs is ruining it for me and I know other people. If the damage overall is lowered as well as other setups adjusted / brought in line in terms of balance and to allow more variety, I think we can get some more skilful and intense duels. Hits here and there will become more important as well as mastering the use of flasks, line of sight and understanding your opponent. Right now 80% of the matches are pretty much decided in the first round, all in, people explode, 1 guy has better gear or a counter etc.. This mostly applies to lld from my experience. ALL of this so far is directed at LLD, tommie pls spare me. If you look at games completed on swiss events, my statement proves how fast matches end for MOST people. Not ALL. :) |
