"Area contains Vaal Beacons" in Simulacrums, makes them incompletable
|
[update: I had previously thought this was tied to Temple Tablets, but now I think I'm wrong about that]
Simulacrum instances can be created with "Area contains Vaal Beacons", which makes it so they can only be completed about 10-20% of the time. At this point my best guess is that it's because the simulacrum is adjacent to the Vaal Ruins area of the atlas. It's possible to brute force through to getting a completable simulacrum by burning through waystones to get new instances, but it's both expensive and frustrating. It takes repeatedly attempting wave 1, and very rarely it will proceed as normal to wave 2. ![]() (edit: I've now attempted around 15 waystones, where 3 times I was able to proceed to wave 2, and all the rest would fail to resolve wave 1 as pictured above) Thank you for your time, and I hope this report is useful. New theory! The vaal beacon might be guaranteed to appear in this simulacrum (due to proximity to the vaal ruins), but when the beacon generates 5 or fewer enemies, the simulacrum script is able to delete them.
Just now I had another successful attempt getting past wave 1 but now with a proper 4-mod T15 waystone. The remaining monster count was at "6", I killed the last actual simulacrum monster, and the remaining monster count briefly showed "5" before snapping down to "0" and permitting me to proceed to wave 2. At this point my best guess is that a behavior normally meant to keep players from searching for the last few monsters is able to clean up the vaal beacon monsters if there's unusually few of them. |

Confirmed there really is a beacon here that was fouling things up!!!
This is somewhere around 15 attempted waystones before I got lucky and the vaal beacon appeared to generate few enough enemies (likely 5) such that the simulacrum's script was able to delete them to end wave 1. This screenshot is in the wave 6 area of the simulacrum, where I was then able to see the beacon both on the minimap and placed out of bounds behind some buildings. ![]() Here is the simulacrum's location on the atlas, about halfway between the Vaal Ruins and the Reliquary Vault: ![]() The map isn't showing the vaal ruin's golden pad for guaranteed vaal beacons, but it's plausible that the simulacrum's visual is replacing that. TLDR: For anyone who's stuck getting vaal beacons added to a simulacrum, just keep making attempts and burn through waystones until it works. Success rate seems around 10-20% for getting past wave 1. |
