Fight with Lord of the Pit does not start after clicking the Verisium

Standard Expedition encounter in a Tier 15 map with a boulder to remove via detonatian. It leads down to a Boss fight (looks like it). After clicking the Verisum ore vein nothing happens and I am stuck in the arena. Can only port out.
