Locked out of Ritual mechanics, cannot progress

I bought a few "An Audience With the King"s on trade, so I had several in my inventory. After completing my most recent Rite of the Nameless, I am no longer able to spawn a new Crux of Nothingness to fight the king and start a new rite. I have tried emptying my inventory and farming a new audience with the king from scratch but it did not help. I have moused over my current available waystone areas to make sure the previous rite is not still active and cannot find anything suspicious.

It seems I am locked out from fighting the boss or doing the rite of the nameless.
