Paquate's Mechanism unexpected behaviour

I was playing with a friend in a party. We used the device to corrupt our items. I pressed the button in the interface. It did close and my character said: "it was not what i expected." The item just disappeared. I thought it was a result of an unfortunate corruption attempt. Also i thoughts it is a strange way of mechanics introduction to the player: "use this and lost your item".

But it is not where the story ended. Later i went to the Temple (solo this time). there was these devices that adds random modifier to a rare item. The devices has a slot for item to put. When i clicked on the first device, its slot was already occupied with my item i'm previously lost in the Paquate's Mechanism. So i took it back. In the end it was a pleasant experience, but i suspect this is not how it meant to be.
