'Attack in place' (shift) key not working as it used to

I've been playing poe 1/2 for almost 2 decades and the mouse control was always the same. I assign a melee attack to left click and as I hold left click to move my char, I tap 'shift' whenever I need to attack. This is no longer working! Please bring back the old controls! PLEASE!!
