Cosmetic Variations

Good evening POE2 community.
We have been blessed by GGG with the ability to acquire different versions of cosmetics within the game. For many these show up as separate objects to be equipped, As you can see with the two gargoyle portals.  For others there is a roman numeral icon in the bottom right of the cosmetics thumbnail when equipped that allows for the swapping of appearances.    Then there are cosmetics like "Lord of Ogham Body Armour"   that should Have the same ability to change variations appearances much like the helm i exampled earlier but don't. This is what the other variation looks like for reference.  Now I've considered the possibility that it could be a bug, however just today it spontaneously changed appearances and i couldn't figure out how or why and I had to go onto another character and unequipped it from the other character to reset the appearance. Even more-so is the fact that I had this same quandary last league as well, and I cannot recall what the solution I had stumbled across was. bump, i bought the scavenger armor as it has a full face visual and noticed when i bought it and equipped it that it shows half face, which leads me to believe it too has variations. But i don't know how to swap its version.
