Idea for PoE 2: A "Clean" Permanent League Alternative to Standard
|
Hi everyone,
As we know, temporary leagues often introduce unique mechanics and items that never make it into the core game. Once a league ends, all characters and their league-specific items are transferred to the Standard league. Because of this, Standard has become a dumping ground for legacy gear, broken items, and absolute chaos. It’s filled with tons of items and currency that are completely unobtainable now. My Idea: Introduce a second, alternative permanent league. Let's call it the "Stable League". How it works: Strictly Isolated: Characters and items from temporary leagues will never merge into this league at the end of their cycle. Pure Core Content Only: This league will only receive content and items that have officially been integrated into the core game. Example: Let's say a league like Ultimatum finishes, and GGG decides not to add it to the core game. In Standard: All Ultimatum characters, unique, and specialized items get dumped there. In the "Stable League": Absolutely nothing from Ultimatum will ever appear here. Note on Legacy Items: Yes, over time, some items that were once part of the core game might get removed or changed, creating some legacy items here too. However, it will still be incomparably less than Standard, which gets flooded with tons of broken items and endless currency after every single league. Essentially, it would be a permanent home for players who don't want to restart every 3-4 months but still want a balanced game with a much more reasonable economy. I understand that the popularity of this league would be relatively low, but I believe it would be sufficient to justify its existence. Due to the nature of PoE 2—where a tight development cycle, limited time, and resources meet incredibly complex build mechanics and interactions—imbalances and legacy items are inevitable. I fully understand this, and my goal is simply to soften that impact. What do you guys think? Last bumped on May 25, 2026, 6:54:22 AM

I can't see this happening because GGG clearly only wants us to play in Temporary Challenge leagues, not any Permanent Standard(-like) ones.
If they didn't, they would allow us to manually migrate from Challenge to Standard whenever we wanted to (just like we can for SSF to Trade), so that we don't have to choose between continuing to progress our characters (and cool items we found) at the end of a Temporary league in its parent Permanent league (with the characters and cool items we accumulated there before), and making new characters in the new Temp Challenge leagues (with all the new cool stuff there). Which is about to happen this very week. No, the few days in-between Temp Challenge leagues hardly count, especially with the patch notes for the forced update already having been released, but not applied yet. Continuing to progress a build that is about to be warped by the update feels pointless. (It's probably more fun during this time, if we even play, to quickly try out a 'new' build (new to us, as a specific player) that we know from the patch notes will be completely gone.) We're even going to have the Vaal Temple disabled during this time. Last edited by BlueTemplar85#0647 on May 25, 2026, 6:57:38 AM
