Skill/support cutting suggestion.

I was watching the latest interview for 0.5 with ghazzy and darth, and Jonathan talked about how his test build wasn't really cutting it in some areas of the game and the different reasons why that was, and he touched on the recommended support gems for a little bit, which made me think that it really is very hard for a newer player to poe2(including myself) to chose anything other than the recommended gems because:

1.When you click that "show all gems" button you get bombarded with tons of information and all kinds of different supports that might not really work for your situation and it is a very hard process to filter out some of them without knowing what you are looking for exactly because you have to read all of them.

2.Another issue that i had on almost all my builds is just not enough support gems dropping on campaign to be able to actually experiment and find the better combinations than the recommended ones.
And it was even worse when i tried the druid because my support gems for the bear had no overlap when i decided to change to the wolf, where if you were going for an ice spell casting build there is much much greater possibility for overlap.

This is a bit of a speculation but perhaps the reason for the sentiment that im hearing that a lot of people feel that poe2 builds are very hand holdy is precisely because of the recommended gems situation, they work adequately enough but you don't get the satisfaction of choosing something on your own.

So my two suggestions for these two problems if they are real and i'm not making stuff up would be:

1:When you click show all it would be sweet to have some sort of categorization UI perhaps you need cold related support gems, you click that and there's all the cold support gems including stuff that wouldn't come up if you searched for simply cold in the search bar like sub mechanics (freeze, chill)

2:One way to solve the issue of not being able to experiment with support gems enough and getting locked into your very uneducated decisions, is to be able to turn it back into an uncut version or a cleansed version for a cost and/or through an NPC so you don't need to increase the drop rates and shower the player with more support gems that they know what to do with.

Sorry for the very messy thoughts but this was very off the cuff, and thank you for reading.

First of all, mostly +1.

And I am a fairly experienced player with tons of experience in POE 1 and some experience with over 1000+ hours already in PoE 2.

Dunno, you mentioned the search bar and they are connected normally. Cold will normally also show any freeze or chill gem if they are related to chill/freeze, if not you can search for those things. Therefore I am a bit confused on what they should add, to make it up for you.

Exactly, we starve on gems, equally if uncut skill gems or support gems.

Many will argue, they don't, but they most likely never really experiment or they level to 70 in act 1...

But besides the few ways or quests that quarantee a uncut skill or support gem to drop, we not really have any choices and we cannot just risk to use them, cause they are not available for a while after using them for a experiment while we actually need them to upgrade skills that will work.

Your solution seems fine, I would but rather see just a vendor that lets us buy uncut gems for lower levels after we dropped them once and can be bought with or for low level currency.

but no worries that is a topic since 0.1 already :D
I am aware that the search is quite capable and powerful, especially if you know what to search for, i just think that it will be easier to go through and read the gems if there is some sort of nice UI that's organized and not a wall of gems and text haphazardly thrown around, the current system gives me poe1 gem vendor vibes, i don't necessarily know what would be better i just feel like i don't like it how it is for one or more reasons, i would need to look into it more its been a while since i last played, maybe its fine and its a matter of familiarity i have yet to attain.
