The concept of dynamic interpenetration of worlds - League and Standard

I would like to propose a fundamental overhaul of how Leagues and Standard interact in Path of Exile 2. Currently, while the game is in Early Access and the Standard economy isn't yet oversaturated with a decade of accumulated wealth like in PoE 1, we have a perfect "window of opportunity" to connect these modes lore-wise and economically. ❓ The Problem with the Current SystemRight now, the game is rigidly divided. A League is a seasonal marathon that loses most of its player base after 1.5–2 months due to burnout. Standard, for many, has become a "character graveyard." Developers fear merging their trade spaces due to concerns about split player counts and inflation. As a result, we lose a massive layer of mature players (non-competitive or non-seasonal ones) who hate leveling from scratch every 90 days but find Standard too quiet and deserted. 🌌 The Solution: "Soul Projection" Lore ConceptThe concept of the Atlas and its portals is perfectly suited to connect these worlds logically:Standard is the Metropolis (The Core). This is where your permanent roster of characters and accumulated resources reside. A New League is an Uncharted Reality (The Expedition). An anomaly appears. Due to material instability, the physical bodies of your high-level veterans and their gear cannot pass through. Fresh Start is Preserved: At the start of a league, you only send a spark of your "soul". You must materialize a new Avatar and level from scratch. The competitive excitement and empty stash tabs during the first few days remain completely untouched. 📊 Dynamic Market Sync and the "Catch-Up" MechanicInstead of rigid isolation, the connection between League and Standard should be dynamic, progressing as players collectively stabilize the portal over the course of the season: Weeks 1–2 (Total Isolation): The portal is completely unstable. Economies are separated. A pure, competitive race takes place. Week 3 (Resource Smuggling / Low-Level Start): The portal expands. Cross-market trade search unlocks. A Standard player deciding to join the league late can use the cross-market to buy low-level unique items from Standard to ease their leveling process. This transfer is taxed heavily in Gold, which protects the league's high-end economy but makes starting late smooth and comfortable. Month 2 (Veterans' Expedition): The trade tax gradually decreases. Standard players can now transfer mid-level characters (e.g., lvl 70-80) into the league, bypassing the campaign entirely and jumping straight into the endgame farm. High-end drop from the league is actively sold back to Standard, keeping the league's player count at its peak. Month 3 (Total Clearance): The tax approaches zero. Borders dissolve. A player can log into the league using their ultimate Level 100 character from Standard to defeat the toughest seasonal Uber Bosses and claim unique seasonal rewards that their league avatar couldn't handle. 🌀 Seamless Season End (World Convergence)Two weeks before the season ends, the league doesn't conclude with a hard server shutdown. Instead, a gradual "convergence" happens. The drop rate of the league mechanic on Standard smoothly scales up, while in the League, it scales down to baseline values. Databases merge in the background. The season ends without server downtime or the stressful chore of sorting hundreds of "Remove-Only" stash tabs. 🏆 Why this is good for PoE 2 Sustained Player Retention: The league remains appealing at any stage (early on for racers, mid-season for casual catch-up, late-season for Standard veterans). Standard Revitalization: The Standard economy receives a steady flow of fresh items in controlled portions rather than an overwhelming avalanche on a single day. Account Integrity: Players no longer feel like they are wasting time. Every action in a league expands their permanent "empire" on Standard. PoE 2 is a next-generation game.
