Why layout agency matters
|
Currently the direction the game is going seems to be, we get random maps within a biome and we can reroll them once.
It's inevitable that this is causing player frustration because of multiple build/player types prefering certain layouts and strats in combination. It's a problem you cannot solve, except by allowing agency over layouts to a large degree. In PoE1 I am perfectly happy running Strand, Jungle Valley, City Square and a couple other maps all league long, I don't like doing other maps and I feel the same way about maps in PoE 2. Its not just that I like these maps, its more so that they don't piss me off, I can only take a certain amount of annoying maps before I end the league. And there is a lot of maps in PoE 2 that piss me off, reducing my desire to play longer. There is maps with narrow paths where you cant dodge roll properly if there are enemies, bosses with really long animations out of combat, height differences where spells dont work properly, maps with lots of foliage cluttering the screen, maps where you miss the checkpoints bc they are setup poorly. For a large amount of players those are problably non issues, but they are an issue for me and other maps may cause other players headaches for their own reasons. I don't see why there is such a desire to force players to engage in rotating map layouts, please reconsider and let us choose the maps we want to run, or at least exclude the worst maps of our choice from ever rolling on the atlas.
