I can log into my account but still can't secure it
|
I recently decided to return to Path of Exile after several years away from the game. I was genuinely excited about Path of Exile 2 and planned to purchase Early Access and continue supporting GGG on the same account I used years ago.
The problem started with my old email account. It was a childhood email address that I unfortunately used for many services back then. For years, the email account was still connected to my old phone, so I never really needed to enter the password again. The problem only appeared after I changed phones and tried to connect that old email account to my new device. That was the moment I realized I no longer remembered the password to the email account. I spent several days trying to recover access to that old email account through the email provider, but unfortunately I was unable to regain access. At some point, I slowly started accepting the idea that everything connected to that old email address was probably lost forever. Still, I did not completely give up and decided to at least try recovering access to some old services and accounts connected to it. One of those accounts was my old Grinding Gear Games account. On the day I contacted support, I eventually managed to recover my old Path of Exile password myself and successfully log into my account again. I can fully access the website, account information, purchase history, and everything else normally. However, there is still one major issue: I cannot change the old email address associated with the account, because the confirmation link is naturally sent to that same inaccessible email address. Over the last few days I provided support with various verification details. The only remaining requirement is old Xsolla invoice IDs from many years ago. Few days ago I contacted Xsolla and I am still waiting for a response from them. I completely understand why account security procedures exist, and I am not blaming support for following their rules. At the same time, it feels strange that I can successfully log into my own account with the correct password and verify years of account information, yet still be unable to properly secure ownership of the account itself. At this point, I honestly do not feel comfortable investing more money into an account that I could potentially lose access to again in the future simply because I no longer control an old childhood email account. That is unfortunate, because I genuinely wanted to return for PoE2 and continue supporting GGG like I did in the past. For now, I am honestly looking at alternative games. I will probably still try Path of Exile 2 in the future once it becomes free-to-play, but most likely without investing further into the account unless I can fully secure it first. Maybe someone here experienced a similar situation and managed to solve it somehow. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would genuinely appreciate the help. Thank you for reading. Thank you for the reply.
Yes, I have already been in contact with support for the past several days regarding this issue and I am currently waiting for a response from Xsolla regarding the old invoice IDs that I requested a few days ago. I appreciate the response and I understand the importance of account security procedures. At this point I was mostly curious whether anyone from the community may have experienced a similar situation before and perhaps found an alternative solution. |

unfortunately there's not much you can do but wait and scream into the void. The second half of GGGs account recovery process is appallingly slow. Once junior support is done with preliminary info gathering reported delays in GGG responses run a month+ between exchanges. All you can do then is wait because sending "I'm still waiting" emails dumps you back to the end of the queue.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? |

I am encountering the exact same frustration with this account. I forgot the password after having not logged in for a while but finally remembered it only for it to require validation from an email that does not exist (my old college purged them).
Just endless hoops to regain usage of my own property and its incredibly frustrating. Last edited by eqmuraj2#0010 on May 21, 2026, 4:55:48 PM

Final update from my side.
Unfortunately, after exhausting every recovery option available to me, I have decided to stop pursuing the matter further. I recovered my old password myself, I still have access to the account, I provided various verification details, and I contacted Xsolla regarding the old invoice IDs, but without access to my old childhood email account it ultimately was not enough to complete the recovery/security process. At this point, I simply no longer feel comfortable investing additional time or money into an account that I cannot fully secure and control myself. It is genuinely unfortunate, because I was looking forward to returning for Path of Exile 2 and continuing to support GGG like I did years ago. I appreciate everyone who replied to this thread and shared similar experiences. At this point, I have also requested the deletion of my account and personal data. I wish all of you the best moving forward and I hope you continue enjoying the game. Take care everyone. |
