Making Energy Shield More Active and Skill-Based in PoE2

I really like the direction PoE2 is taking with more interactive defensive systems, especially with mechanics like Block and Parry showing how defense can be active and timing-based rather than purely passive.

What I’d like to see next is Energy Shield given more active expression alongside its current role as a strong defensive layer.

For example, Focus off-hand items could grant a channeling defensive skill that interacts with incoming spells in different ways:

* Absorb a spell and convert part of it into mana recovery
* Deflect or partially redirect a spell to reduce its impact
* Convert or mitigate a spell hit into a temporary defensive buff
* Drain Energy Shield while channeling to heavily reduce or partially negate the next incoming spell, with the spent ES refunded on a successful interaction

The goal isn’t to increase Energy Shield’s passive raw power, but to make it more skill-based and interactive, where timing and decision-making matter.

I also think PoE2 could expand more on defensive mechanics like Block and Parry through deeper support gem interactions, as most defensive systems still lean more toward passive scaling or simple triggers compared to offensive skill customization. If Energy Shield had more active mechanics like this, it could naturally open up more design space for support gems that enhance reactive defense, timing windows, and counterplay-based effects tied specifically to ES interactions.
