Ground effect boss shot gunning Janky and not engaging!!

So I've been doing some more practice/prep work for 0.50 and it seems the only way to do decent single target damage for many classes and/or archetypes is to place done something and then try to blow it up on the boss to shotgun multiple overlapping hits.

What happened to hitting a boss/rear directly with a skill to do actually decent damage to it??

I am all for the slower more combo-based combat system in poe2 but for the average gamer trying put down a wall, stormburst, toxic growth etc and then try and blow it up on a boss/rare with high mobility can very easily switch from "engaging combat" to janky annoyingness all the while trying to dodge mechanic's etc.

This would be fine if we had multiple options to do great single target damage but if you can land this type of janky/annoying combo on a boss/rare it does astronomically more damage than anything else to the point of being very overpowered in many cases.

This is taking a huge amount of engagement away from the game because for some classes this is actually the only way to do decent single target damage. We have all these cool skills and supports but nope for my cold sorc I have to freeze the boss/rare then put wall/s down(WTF) and then blow the wall/s up. I mean for a magic spell caster really!!

I know that we have the different weapon spec tree's etc to help switch between skills/setups etc. but in many cases this actually feels bad having to switch to something you don't want to play to do single target damage.

Sorry for a bit of a long rant, but I have play tested four builds/archetypes over the last week,

Lightning Merc - Stormburst
Cold Sorc - Ice Wall (wtf)
Poison Pathfinder - Toxic growth
Warrior - Shield Wall (wtf)

And with all of them as noted I seeming had to do this janky mechanic to get decent single target damage going through the campaign, so I thought I had to say something. I know there are probably other skill combo's etc that do single target damage but like all the build guides point players to the best/broken janky or not skills to use.
