Ascendency Power-Creep?
|
I was curious if the collective people on this forum agreed that it feels like each new ascendency they create adds better and better mechanics that are more fun to play with then what we started with?
I just made another post about spirit-walkers ability to tame beast bosses and lamented how it'd be great to have that for a necromancer, which got me thinking about just how boring some of the other/older ascendancies are by comparison. Sticking with witch for example: Blood mage just gives you health costs for spells, and little else besides stat changes and buffs to healing/lifesteal. Lich has some explosive curse interactions that *can* be fun visually, a jewel slot and some immunity via eternal life. Infernalist offers the best option for fun visual changes with your demon form and an extra minion, but correct me if I'm wrong but even the demon form doesn't actually *do* much besides more stat changes right? It doesn't add new abilities for you to press, or drastically change how you play witch right? When compared to getting an entire extra passive tree, or having a literal boss by your side, or fighting alongside several djinns that each provide new abilities, these other ascendancies feel pretty underwhelming, and I worry that this will get worse as more classes are added, and that the existing ascendancies won't change much going into 1.0 and beyond. Pretty sure this is a well established ARPG business model not exclusive to PoE2 to keep people coming back for seasonal play.
Try this new ascendency it's better than the old ones, just look at how it explodes things in one hit but with different colors for already used graphics ... or in the case of D4 and Spiritborne here's the new class that does literally 150,000,000,000 times the damage of the older classes. If they updated all the old classes and ascendencies and perfectly balanced them with the new ones, people would probably drop the game faster. So they just drip them out one or two at a time per season, and then when they have all of them in game finally, they'll just cycle through updating the existing ones 1 or 2 per season. Don't see what you're wanting coming any time soon, but maybe they'll surprise us and have it all reasonably well balanced by 1.0..... |

Ya I get that same feeling. But Ascendancies can always get revised and im guessing most will. Especially seeing as how these new ones are designed around mechanics that werent in the game at 0.1 (expanded rune system/companions). They did anounce revising the chronomancer has been a goal for 0.5, and gemling I think.
I also prefer these newer types of ascendancy nodes that have a clear, strong benefit and little to no down sides. Like the Martial Artists 'runic meridians'. Compared to the Infernalist's 'Altered Flesh' node that requires a bunch of math to figure out if its helping my defenceses with my current ratio of Armour/ES/Life/chaos resist, and at best it feels like "maybe?" Please GGG, I need my sparkly crown MTX in PoE2.

It's not a matter of agreeing or not, they stated that's the case. New ascendancies just straight up are more high effort

Great points all around. Bummed out yet hopeful I shall remain.

The witch absolutely needs a lich ascendency that is hyper focused on undead minions.
The Spirit Walker ascendency should have been for the druid. The RP element on this doesnt make any sense. I think they will do the same thing with Templar. It will have a huge totem/absolution minion theme. |

it's a matter of perspective. You might think taming a boss is impressive while another might say stopping time with chrono is more so.
I kinda disagree with this all round though tbh, sorry haha. Yeah Sorc got 3 Djinns with her ascendancy but they are not super OP, people ignore them for the most part and only use the fracture djinn skill and energy shield ascendancy node in HC. Oracle is popular due to inevitable crits, the extra skill tree stuff is just a bonus. The Druid transformations themselves are cool but they are kind of on-rails with how you can play them. As for unique ascendancy skills we already have multiple classes with them like Tactician, Invoker, Acolyte, Infernalist, Ritualist, Chronomancer and whatever else I can't think of. I personally don't find the newer ascendanices to be especially more interesting than the previous ones, but that's just the way I see it. |

" you dont get it |

" Idk, it makes sense to me. I feel like spirits are more of a shaman thing rather than druids. Druids are sort of a priest in the general sense, it's also why we have Oracle Last edited by iHiems#0168 on May 20, 2026, 12:03:41 AM
