Add Ruthless to PoE2
|
I would love to have Ruthless mode in PoE2.
I wanted the game to be more difficult, slower paced combat, less spammy, less loot pinata-y (like promised) but it's very clear that isn't going to happen... but Ruthless is basically what that is. I think it would solve a lot of the issues within the community when it comes to slower gameplay vs. zoom gameplay and I think it would work really well with the systems in PoE2, where we have dodge rolls, active blocking, more status effects/crowd control, etc. Last bumped on May 20, 2026, 1:58:23 AM

Well, not quite, it wouldn't entirely fix things. It would require quite a bit more changes in design for a lot of things to actually be good and not just end up like PoE1's Ruthless.
To the point where they would have to balance two different games almost. I highly doubt they would do that. Well... not that they have to do much balancing for the zoom-zoom crowd, they always ask for imbalance and things to be OP or never nerf anything. They will add ruthless or something equivalent, it is logical conclusion of "turn poe2 to poe1" process.
Right now, poe2 powercreep is ascending, same as poe1 did up to Harvest (3.13 if I remember correctly). But at some moment GGG will provide new league mechanic that is "too lucrative". Then GGG will be horrified of players being "too satisfied" and minmaxing their chars too fast. For some reason, they believe it will also make players leave game too quickly. And so GGG will start to backpedal fiercely, nuking players left and right:) This is how ruthless was born. |

" Not saying it would fix everything, but I think a reimagined version of it could be a good start. It doesn't have to be just like PoE1 ruthless or even as restrictive, could just simply tune down overall speed, greatly increase monster power while maybe reducing density, reduce item quantity, but leave balancing alone. Just opening up the opportunity for more "souls-like" gameplay without having to re-do everything or do anything too extensive |
|
" True that, I'm just afraid of them misunderstanding what to do with it just based on the name heh. To do -something- about it would still be better then nothing. "Sigh"

Ruthless mode would be nice, if done correctly. Pairs well with the default Toothless default mode for marketing purposes, "Ruthless or Toothless, pick the game you want." You can use that one for free GGG.

yes, please add a rutheless mode, but it shouldn't be a mere copy of poe 1 rutheless, but something new developed particular for poe 2

+1.
I would play ruthless SSF as the only game mode in PoE2 for sure. Been playing only SSF every patch since .1. | |
" They could flip the development process where instead of Ruthless being the rebalanced afterthought, standard was. Develop Ruthless first according to the original vision for PoE2 and then just double the drops and remove all the friction points (no support gem duplicates, sprint, etc.) from "standard" mode. Honestly as long as they sold the illusion of "standard" being the normal way to play the game and ruthless being the side-project, the zoom zoom crowd wouldn't even notice because they don't actually give a ---- about anything being balanced correctly. |
